Cripple Creek project 666
Restoring a Historic Truss Bridge in Wythe County, VA
Gemstone Industrial Services recently completed a standout project in Wythe County, Virginia: the full restoration of the historic Cripple Creek Truss Bridge, located on Route 619 over Cripple Creek. This project represents not just a preservation effort, but a tribute to engineering history.
Preserving the Past, Strengthening the Future
Originally built in the late 1800s, the Cripple Creek Bridge was likely constructed as a railroad bridge. Today, it functions as a two-lane vehicular through-truss bridge, serving local traffic while standing as a testament to 19th-century bridge design. Gemstone’s role in this restoration was extensive. Our team took on the challenge ofrestoring the aging structure with care, precision, and respect for its historic significance. Through abrasive blasting and expert industrial coating application, we returned the bridge to a like-new condition, reviving its original character while protecting it from the elements.
Safe, Compliant, and Built to Last
In addition to surface restoration, Gemstone performed lead abatement and full containment services to meet all regulatory and environmental standards. These efforts ensured that the project was completed safely and in compliance with state and federal guidelines. The finished bridge not only reflects the charm and craftsmanship of its original era but is now reinforced to meet modern standards of durability and safety. This work extends the life of the structure and secures its place in the community for decades to come.
